One scene I enjoyed from the movie was when Chief Obiora AKA Odogwu refused to go in with Chioma to have sex. In His words after he refused, he said "Achalugo, it's not like I don't want to go inside with you. I just don't want what we have to be about sex. I want to get to know you on different levels. The time will come...". This statement bears so much significance.
One, Odogwu admits that he desires pleasure but he understands that that is not a base for their relationship. He also says that the time will come, which emphasizes the notion that there is time for everything.
These days, a lot of people, of those who even claim to be "christians" have forgotten the standard. Even the Bible admonishes us that "Marriage is honourable in all, with the bed undefiled...". Hebrews 13:4(KJV). So, it's not just a societal norm. It's a law.
Although it was quite disappointing in the movie that they still went in to each other but the vital lesson here is to know that that is not God's standard for us as His children.
2. Culinary power: not ascribed to any gender
Photo Credit:Omoni Oboli TVYes! Odogwu cooked for his Achalugo. He didn't hire anybody to do that. He prepared a sumptuous delicacy himself for Chioma.
I've always wondered how someone would prefer to put his right to prepare and cook good food for himself in the hands of another person. You're sitted there helpless and hungry and there's rice in the kitchen, there's pepper, onions, tomatoe and other things to make a good meal but you can't put them together and your stomach suffers. Why?
I see cooking as an art. The ability to prepare food should not be an herculean task but rather a cherished exercise. You may not have to always follow traditional methods. Take Omoye Cooks for instance. Be creative. It's your food, It's your choice. Explore.
3. Entrepreneurship and self-employment
Photo credit:Omoni Oboli TVChioma, the protagonist in the movie finally took a decision to leave an overwhelming job with an overbearing boss to focus on her perfume business that would yield more gain. She even offered to pay her colleague, Tolu twice of what she was being paid there.
That decision was a big achievement for Chioma. Her perfume business suffered so much due to lack of attention. She was an industrious lady and put in her best in her job but unfortunately, they didn't deserve it.
Part of what spurred Chioma's action was Odogwu's entrepreneurial nature. He prioritised self-employment and spoke to her about it. That's why Chioma was very happy to be taking that step. If Chioma channelled the amount of energy she put into her previous job into her perfume business. The reward would be very fulfilling.
Thanks for reading through. I'll be very happy to read your comments on the movie too.
