THE MENACE OF WINDOW-MEN

 

Just today, my friends and I visited a friend at her hostel. We were shocked to see the broken window with glass pieces on the bed. When we asked her what happened. What she told us left us saddened by the activities of these unknown men.

You may be wondering who window-men are. They are unknown men that ravage hostels at the heart of the night when students are sleeping and steal their phones, laptops or gadgets. They are called that because they do that through the window of the rooms. They are a very big threat to hostel residents in school.

I remember when I was in 100 level and relatively new to the environment, how my roommate, in final year, cautioned me about these men. She warned me never to leave my phone close to the window at night. Although I wasn't diligent with it but I was lucky that I didn't fall prey to their evil acts. 

Back to the story on the broken window. Our friend explained to us that there was this window-man that came one night when she was awake and tried to operate the window, he tore the net and attempted to move the sash that was rigid and unmovable. When she heard the sound she spoke out and the person left on hearing her.

A few days later, someone came again, supposedly this same person, bent on fulfilling his mission. He tore another part of the window after the previously torn one had been amended and tried to move the rigid window sash again. She questioned this act again and the person left, moved to another room's window to continue his operation. On perceiving that, she went to the hallway and raised an alarm.

That was it. The angry window-man smashed the window in retaliation. The sound it made brought great fear to the other person in the room that she ran out. How desperate can man be? 

But there's something else my friend said, that she doesn't blame them but the people that actually buy the stolen stuffs. Of course, they'll sell it to human beings that would purchase it. What this means is that these people are actually getting morale from the people that actually buy it.

My take on this is that we should learn to question the authenticity of certain things we buy so that we can help reduce these social problems. Things may be hard but let's not make it harder even for other people. We'll stop here.

YOUR BODY IS NOT FOR SALE

When the economy is not smiling and inflation wipes us to and fro that there's no place to run, the cry goes "use what you have to get what you want". But the question is what do you have?

Alright, let's just be plain. Sex is not a business venture. You read that right. The fact that you rented an apartment doesn't mean you own the house. That is exactly the same with our body except that this time, you were given for free.

But maybe it all boils down to the fact that you really have no relationship with God. Like literally, you don't rapport with Him and so you can't understand why you can't do what you want with your body. Well, I don't blame you but I blame you. That's not an excuse at all. You go to church, You call on God, maybe for fun or by statements like "God abeg". 

You're just like the Pharisees and the scribes or the multitude that are ever learning but not able to come to the knowledge of the truth. You can see the table. It's prepared for you and ready but you don't want to go and eat.

This is not to condemn you or judge you. Only the Father has the right to judge. But the message is clear. Your body should be the temple of God and not the other way around. Keep yourself, brother, sister, man, woman, boy or girl. Don't bring evil to your life. Sex is not a sin but it's only a matter of timing. God created sex and he had a reason to. Don't misuse it. 

 Yes, times are hard. There's inflation in the country but that doesn't mean the people are not making legit money and living a good life. There are profitable ways to make or multiply money in this time and age. Make research. Build yourself. Invest your time and money in something worthy and profitable. If you have no relationship with God, have one today(John 3:3).
